MONROE, N.C. — A man allegedly bit a manager’s ear during a Monroe bar fight Friday.

Officers responded to Dakota’s Sports Bar on West Roosevelt Boulevard Friday night.

The manager told police Michael Burgess jumped into a fight between several women inside of the bar.

Police say the manager put Burgess on the ground, and then lay on top of him to stop the fight. Burgess then bit the manager’s left ear, according to the police department. Burgess is charged with assault and battery.

Bouncers were then able to remove the suspects from the bar.

Police say beer bottles and chairs were thrown during the incident, but no other injuries were reported.

Officers did not arrest anyone else but did cite two teenagers for underage drinking.

Brawl & Homicide Based Around Fresno, CA Bar

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A bar fight between two women spilled into an alleyway, and ended with a beating and deadly gunfire. Police say another man shot and killed Branden Cervantez right about closing time at Nick’s in West Central Fresno.

Police shut down the alleyway for most of the day as they collected evidence. The scene was a real mess because at least seven people were involved in the fight, but homicide investigators are confident they’re closing in on the killer.

By the time an ambulance rushed away from Nick’s bar it was too late for Branden Cervantez. Police say the 30-year-old got mixed up in a fight that originally involved two women inside the bar. Ultimately, he was alone in the alley with several angry men.

“The victim was struck several times and a male shooter shot the victim several times before fleeing in a light-colored vehicle,” said Fresno police Lt. Mark Salazar.

Police don’t yet know the motive for the murder. They say Cervantez may have initially tried to break up the bar fight.

But as a fan of the St. Louis Rams, he may have stood out on a night his team played the San Francisco 49ers, and for one reason or another, he became a target.

“It was a 49er game last night,” Lt. Salazar said. “There were some 49er fans there. There were also some people that looked like gang members.”

Most of the suspects and witnesses took off after the shooting, but police detained two people at the scene.

In the hours that followed, investigators rounded up several more possible witnesses, but they haven’t caught up to the shooter yet.

“We have leads,” Lt. Salazar said. “We have people inside the building right now we’re talking to, so we’re pretty confident we’ll be able to solve this.”

Neighboring businesses were closed at the time of the shooting, but owners told me the bar sometimes draws a bad crowd.

They blame another fight there for the driveby shooting that left bullet holes in the liquor store to the east and the flower shop to the west.

Cervantez worked for a paint store and leaves behind a wife and three sons.

Bronx NY Nightclub Faces Lawsuit After 2012 Homicide

image

Dwight Lewis, 27, was shot and killed inside Whisper’s Lounge, a Bronx night spot, last year. Now, his estate seeks to hold the club’s owners responsible for not preventing the homicide. The venue “negligently provided security” and “failed to detect weapons carried by its customers prior to the customers being allowed to enter,” states a complaint filed Thursday in Bronx Supreme Court.According to the NYPD’s account, Lewis got into an argument with another man at around 4:10 a.m. on July 7, 2012. The man had apparently been carrying a concealed gun. He drew the weapon and shot Lewis in the stomach before fleeing the scene.Lewis died at Jacobi Hospital shortly after.Police arrested Eugene Long from the crime in November 2012. Prosecutors have charged him with second degree murder, as well as one count of first degree manslaughter and a count of criminal possession of a weapon. Long pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial.Whisper’s Lounge is inside Whisper’s Inn, which also has a sports bar. The complaint, which was filed by Lewis’s estate, claims that Whisper’s should have kept tighter security at the lounge “based on the number of crimes that took place” there prior to Lewis’ death.Though the complaint does not cite specific incidents, there was at least one that happened in September 2010. After an argument inside the club at around 4:30 a.m., a group of four women began hitting another woman, according to police. That woman tried to get to her car and leave, but the group pulled her out. They stole $500 from her purse and fled.
