Two New Mexico men involved in a post-wedding reception brawl were arrested early Sunday morning at a popular hotel in Las Cruces. Mario A. Saiz, 36, and Paul Calderon, 41, were charged with one count each of aggravated assault on a peace officer; and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer. Saiz was also charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and attempting to disarm a police. At around 2 a.m. Las Cruces Police were dispatched to Hotel Encanto at 705 S. Telshor Blvd. where there was a fight between seven to eight men inside the Azul nightclub. Officers at the scene said a brawl erupted in the club following a wedding reception and hotel security was not able to handle the large gathering. Officers were told that as Saiz left the club he punched a woman in the face, knocking her down to the ground, where she laid unconscious until after paramedics arrived. Police tried to take Saiz into custody, but said he refused the officer’s commands and tried to take the officer’s baton, a police official. Calderon tried helping Saiz escape the officer’s grasp, according to police. Both men eventually were placed under arrest. The woman struck by Saiz was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officers were not seriously injured. Saiz and Calderon were booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bonds set at $10,000 each.

Man Shot Outside Kingdom Nightclub In Richmond, VA

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) –Police said a man was shot outside a club in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom early Sunday morning.

It happened outside the Kingdom nightclub near Walnut Alley around 12:25 a.m.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to VCU Medical Center by a private individual.

CBS 6 talked to the manager of Kingdom off camera Sunday afternoon. He said there was a fight outside of the nightclub and believes the shooting stemmed from the argument.

He said he saw two people being detained by police.

Those that work and live in the Shockoe Bottom area say violence is expected because it’s a city.

Alec Falsone who works nearby said there is usually police presence and he didn’t think anything of it when he saw flashing police lights late Saturday night.

“I thought somebody had just gotten into a fight and that was it. That’s what normally happens,” he said.

Falsone told CBS 6′s Chelsea Rarrick he doesn’t think the shooting will affect businesses in the area. But, he said it should be a reminder to always stay on alert, especially at night.

“As long as you’re smart and safe and have a good head on your shoulders you shoudn’t have an issue with it whatsoever,” he said.

Police are still trying to find leads of a suspect.

Call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000 if you have any information regarding this shooting.
